HOW TO JOIN

Attend an OCREC general meeting (at which time you can submit your membership paperwork originals).

After you submit your completed forms to the Membership Committee Chairman, OCREC will request a copy of your Voter Audit Report (VAR) from the Orange County Supervisor of Elections (SOE) to verify your information.

You will be notified and can attend a class on membership responsibilities (training session) required by OCREC. These are typically offered once a month.

Attend the next OCREC meeting. Yes, you will be an elected official in Orange County. You must be present when new members are elected – this is typically late in the meeting, so please plan accordingly.

For assistance, contact our Membership Chairman, Tracy Main at membership@OCREC.ORG

The OCREC Constitution describes the process for electing new members when there are vacancies:

ARTICLE III: Membership

Section 3 – VACANCIES – In the event no county committeeman or committeewoman are elected or a vacancy occurs for any other cause in the Orange County Republican Executive Committee, the vacancy shall be filled by a majority vote of those present at a regular meeting of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee at which due notice of the meeting has been given to all members and at which a quorum is present. Such vacancy shall be filled by a qualified member of the political party residing in the precinct where the vacancy occurred and for the unexpired portion of the term and shall not be deemed a member until the name has been duly recorded with the Supervisor of Elections by the Chairman of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee or his designee and the candidate oath has been filed as required under Article III Section 5 of this Constitution.

To fill any vacancy in the Orange County Republican Executive Committee any eligible Republican in an open precinct may apply by (1) attending a meeting first, (2) completing an application at least ten days prior to the balloting, (3) completing the oaths for the Supervisor of Elections and Republican Party of Florida, and (4) attending a class on membership responsibilities. All these requirements must be done procedurally prior to being balloted and voted on to fill a vacancy in the Orange County Republican Executive Committee. The member must be present to be elected. Election shall be held by secret ballot at a regular meeting at which a quorum is present; a majority of those present is required for election.

No candidate for a vacancy on the committee who meets the registration and residence requirements and follows the rules of procedure prescribed for filling a vacancy can be rejected for consideration by a membership committee, board, or officer of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee. All such candidates must be voted upon by the Orange County Republican Executive Committee.

If a county committeeman or committeewoman moves from one precinct or district to another within the same county, and the new precinct or district has a vacancy, then the committeeman or committeewoman may be administratively moved to the new precinct or district without the requirement of an election as set forth above
